The iPad was launched amidst much fanfare by Apple in April 2010 and it was an overnight hit with more than three million of them managing to be sold within the first eighty days. It became the most successful tablet computer ever and due to the way it looked and what it was capable of doing it became the machine people just had to own.
It was initially designed to deal with audio visual material which meant listening to music on it, reading books, or watching films however it did also have Wi-Fi which of course meant people could go online through it as well. In some instances you would even see people using their iPhone connected to it so they could surf the internet when a certain place did not have any Wi-Fi available.
The machine uses a touch screen just exactly like the iPhone and it is fair to say that its usability is a key part. You can have a keyboard appearing on the screen so you can type in various things but it does then save you from carrying a keyboard around with you.
You can also install a whole array of applications which is, yet again, just like the iPhone and the result is its usability is improved further. You only have to look at what is for sale in apps stores to get an idea as to what can be achieved with this machine and more of them are being made on what seems to be a daily basis.
There has since been an iPad2 launched and this is now seen as being faster and capable of handling more information at the one time than its predecessor. This is due to a brand new processor having been produced for the machine and the iPad2 is also a bit lighter as well due to the technology inside being made smaller.
Information can be stored on internal flash memory and you can get different sizes but this does depend on how much cash you have to spend. They are also equipped with rechargeable batteries and Apple state you should be able to get more than enough power out of them for ten hours continuous which should be adequate for most people.
So the iPad is a tablet computer that has taken the world by storm with over fifteen million of them having been sold in various countries in just over a single year. Thanks to being able to download and install numerous apps you can use the machine to do so much and the fact it is made by a brand name that is perhaps the coolest to currently own you cannot see another competitor managing to overtake it any time soon.
